Frequently Asked Questions
How much are Kalshi fees?
Kalshi charges a trading fee of 7% of your expected profit variance, calculated as 0.07 x contracts x price x (1 - price), rounded up to the next cent. For example, buying 100 contracts at 50 cents costs $1.75 in fees. Fees are highest at 50 cents and shrink toward 1 cent or 99 cents. There are no fees when a contract settles.
How are Kalshi trading fees calculated?
The formula is: fee = 0.07 x C x P x (1 - P), where C is the number of contracts and P is the price in dollars. A 100-contract order at 30 cents costs 0.07 x 100 x 0.30 x 0.70 = $1.47. The result is always rounded up to the next cent.
Does Kalshi charge fees when a contract settles or expires?
No. Kalshi only charges fees when you trade (buy or sell before settlement). If you hold a contract to settlement, you receive the full $1 per contract if you're right, with no settlement fee deducted.
Why are Kalshi fees higher at 50 cents?
The fee formula P x (1 - P) peaks at 50 cents because that's where the outcome is most uncertain. At 50c the fee is 1.75 cents per contract; at 90c or 10c it drops to 0.63 cents per contract. Trading contracts near the extremes costs less in fees.
Are Kalshi fees cheaper than sportsbook vig?
Usually, yes. A standard -110/-110 sportsbook line has about 4.5% vig built in. Kalshi's fee on a 50-cent contract works out to roughly 3.5% of your stake round-trip, and much less at prices away from 50 cents. Use our Vig Calculator to compare a specific line.
